About Us

The Metropolitan PGA Junior Tour, founded in 1975, established a goal to introduce juniors to tournaments and clinics in order to improve their lives through sports and recreation. The growth of the program has been phenomenal, and today our program consists of nearly 1,300 junior golfers and a schedule of over 120 junior tournaments per season. The Junior Tour is under the umbrella of the Metropolitan Section PGA Foundation, governed by the Metropolitan Section of the PGA of America.

The Metropolitan PGA Junior Tour is open to all boys and girls ages 7-18 who reside in or are members of a golf course within the boundaries of the Metropolitan Section that employs a PGA Professional. Members are eligible to play in events up until their 19th birthday as long as they have not started college.

The Metropolitan Section includes:

  • Long Island
  • New York City
  • Westchester County
  • Rockland County
  • Sullivan County
  • Putnam County
  • Orange County
  • Southern Dutchess County
  • Southern Ulster County
  • and Fairfield County (south of Danbury and Bridgeport).
The Junior Tour runs from May through October with a majority of the events taking place during the summer months. Most events take place during the week with the exception some Future Series Tournaments (36- Hole events) taking place on weekends. For those who register between February 23 and April 20, the cost of membership is $100. For those who register after April 21, the cost is $125.

The Junior Tour is broken up into three different Tours.

9 Hole Tour: The 9 Hole tournaments are open to boys 7-14 and girls 7-18 and cost $35 for regular events and $50 for Championships. Juniors who average a score of 110 and higher for 18 holes must play on the 9 Hole Tour. 9 Hole Tour members may only play in 9 Hole events.

Players Tour: 18 Hole tournaments for players 12-18 years of age and cost $50. The Players Tour is broken up into two age divisions for the boys 12-14 and 15-18 and is one overall age division for the girls 12-18. Juniors must have a scoring average of 110 and below to participate on the Players Tour. Players Tour members may only play in one day tournaments with the exception of any championships in which they have qualified for.

Future Series: 36 Hole, two-day tournaments for players 12-18 years of age and cost $200. There is one overall division for boys 12-18 and one overall division for girls 12-18. Boys must have a Handicap Index of 10 or below (scoring average of 82 or below) and girls must have a Handicap Index of 15 or below (scoring average of 90 or below) to participate in the Future Series. Future Series members are eligible to play in the one day Players Tour events.

Championships: Throughout the summer there will be Championship events where members of the 9 Hole Tour (one day) and Future Series (36 Holes) are automatically exempt. Members of the Players Tour must qualify to play in these 36 Hole Championships. The cost of the qualifiers will be $60. Please note some championships may have a cut after the first round.
